Funeral Director Software FAQ

Clear answers about funeral case management software, security, workflows, and how Kindred supports independent funeral directors and multi-location groups.

Frequently asked questions

  • What is funeral director software?

Funeral director software is a cloud-based platform that helps funeral directors manage cases from first call through final disposition. It typically includes case files, contracts, forms, scheduling, accounting, reporting, and family communication tools in one system.

  • What is funeral case management software?

Funeral case management software tracks each decedent's record through every stage of service — intake, arrangement conference, documentation, merchandise, services, and closing. Kindred keeps case data, documents, and billing connected so staff do not re-enter information across modules.

  • Does Kindred handle case management, contracts, and accounting?

Yes. Kindred includes full case management, contract generation, e-signatures, built-in accounting with chart of accounts and financial reports, and optional QuickBooks Online integration or QuickBooks Desktop export.

  • Is Kindred cloud-based funeral software?

Yes. Kindred is fully web-based — no servers to maintain and no software to install on individual computers. Staff can access cases from the office, arrangement room, or on the road from any modern browser.

  • Is funeral software secure for sensitive family records?

Kindred encrypts sensitive data at rest and in transit. The platform includes role-based access controls, automated backups, and security practices designed for funeral records that contain personally identifiable information.

  • Can Kindred generate death certificates and funeral forms?

Kindred supports customisable forms and document workflows used in funeral service, including the statutory cremation forms and the paperwork that goes to the Medical Examiner and the Registrar. Forms can be pre-filled from case data to reduce manual entry and errors.

  • Does Kindred support e-signatures for funeral contracts?

Yes. Kindred includes electronic signatures on contracts and authorisation forms, so families can sign documents remotely without printing and scanning.

  • Does Kindred work for multi-location funeral director groups?

Yes. Kindred supports multiple locations under one account with location-based access controls, shared reporting, and centralised administration for groups operating one or many rooftops.

  • Does Kindred work for pet crematoriums and pet funeral directors?

Yes. Kindred is one platform with dedicated modules for pet crematoriums and pet funeral directors, alongside funeral directors. Pet workflows include an owner-and-veterinarian first-call layout, veterinarian and clinic contacts, clinic billing accounts for veterinary offices, and pet-specific forms such as cremation authorisations and certificates. The same case, contract, and accounting tools apply, and firms that run both human and companion-animal locations can keep those layouts separate.

  • Does Kindred integrate with QuickBooks?

Kindred includes built-in accounting and can connect to QuickBooks Online for sync. Funeral directors that prefer QuickBooks Desktop can export accounting data for import into their existing workflow.

  • Does Kindred include AI tools for funeral directors?

Yes. Kindred includes built-in AI tools that help reduce repetitive administrative work, so staff can spend more time with families.

  • Can Kindred build funeral director websites and obituaries?

Yes. Kindred includes a website builder for funeral director public sites, obituary publishing, and online flower store integration — connected to the same case data used in daily operations.

  • Who builds and supports Kindred?

Kindred is built by LarkTek, LLC — an independent, family-owned software company founded by funeral service professionals. The Larkin family has operated Larkin Mortuary for more than 140 years.

  • Where is my data stored if I am a UK funeral director?

Kindred runs a dedicated UK deployment at uk.kindredfuneral.io, hosted in London. Funeral directors on the UK deployment have their cases, documents and records stored and processed in the UK, on a separate database, storage and encryption keys from our US and Canadian systems. This supports your compliance with UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Some third-party services we connect to — e-signature, card payments, SMS and email — may process data outside the UK; we will tell you which ones apply to your setup.

  • How do I evaluate funeral director software before switching?

Look for case management depth, form and contract workflows, accounting fit, family-facing tools, security practices, implementation support, and a vendor roadmap that matches how your funeral director operates. Kindred offers demos so your team can see real workflows before making a decision.
